Student Work
What students shoot, report and run during training
These are the kinds of exercises students complete across our strands. Each one is set up so that tutors can watch the work happen and give feedback straight away.

Handheld interview on a busy street
Students shoot a short interview outdoors, managing traffic noise and shifting light. The focus is steady framing and keeping the subject's voice clear.

Piece-to-camera in the open air
A reporter delivers a structured stand-up with wind and passers-by to contend with. Tutors work on pace, breathing and holding eye contact with the lens.

Planning a live link from location
A small team plans cues, timings and fallback options before going live. They practise adjusting when the story or the signal changes.

Newsroom story selection session
A classroom group debates which stories lead and why. They weigh accuracy, public interest and fairness before agreeing an order.

Audio check before a shoot
Students test microphones, monitor levels on headphones and record clean ambient sound. Small habits here save a great deal of trouble in the edit.

Reviewing footage with a mentor
A working operator sits with a tutor to go through recent footage shot by shot. Together they pick out what worked and what to change next time.
